Acupuncture & Skin Care Clinic also offers manual therapy/trigger points therapy, cold laser treatment, cupping therapy, Chinese herbal supplements, and moxa treatment.
Manual Therapy/Trigger Points Therapy
Manual therapy (MT) is a unique, thorough examination and treatment of the body’s soft tissues using regionally oriented protocols that are taught in a step-by-step process. These hands-on techniques are built upon a science-based foundation and guided by clinical evidence.
NMT provided natural pain relief by relaxing the muscles, ligaments, and enhancing blood and oxygen circulation to injured tissues to speed up the healing process.
In addition, MT considers all factors that may be associated with the client’s complaints. For example, when a client presents with shoulder pain, the upper extremity protocol will be used as the primary examination. In addition to the muscles directly crossing the shoulder joint, muscles that attach the shoulder girdle to the torso would be included along with steps to help insure mobility of the scapula. Dysfunctions within the arm, forearm and hand often produce compensation patterns in shoulder movement, so examination of those regions should be included. Since innervations to the shoulder exits the spine at the cervical region, mobility and muscles of the neck will be considered; compression or entrapment of the nerves serving the shoulder should be ruled out.
Cold Laser Treatment
Cold Laser Therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a treatment that utilizes specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and to accelerate the healing process. It can be used on patients who suffer from a variety of acute and chronic conditions in order to help eliminate pain, swelling, reduce spasms and increase functionality.
Cupping Therapy
Cupping therapy is a common service provided by acupuncture professionals to aid in the treatment of disease and promotes healing. Cupping therapy commonly utilizes glass or plastic cups to create localized vacuum pressure. This vacuum is created by using heat inside the cups or suction to create the vacuum. The vacuum inside the cups increases blood flow to the area and aids in healing. Cupping therapy is commonly performed on the patient’s back because there are five meridians on the back. When these meridians are opened, the internal energy is able to flow through the whole body. Cupping therapy is also used to release toxins due to the deep nature of the suction to penetrate deep into your tissues, causing them to release these toxins, as well as increase lymphatic drainage.
Chinese Herbal Supplements
Chinese herbal medicine is part of a larger healing modalities known as traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), which also includes acupuncture, massage, dietary advice and exercise. The underlying principles of TCM are very different from conventional Western notions about health, illness and the functions of the body. Chinese herbs are prescribed to normalize imbalanced energy, or Qi (biological energy), that runs through invisible meridians in the body. Whether or not the philosophy is believed, studies have proven Chinese herbal medicines to be successful in treating a range of disorders, particularly gynecological and gastrointestinal disorders. Chinese herbal medicine also can help promote the body to heal various medical conditions from chronic pain, fatigue, stress, depression, hot flashes, infertility, arthritic pain and women health conditions.
Moxa Treatment
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, to facilitate healing. Moxibustion has been used throughout Asia for thousands of years. In traditional Chinese medicine, moxibustion is used on people who have a cold or stagnant condition. The burning of moxa is believed to expel cold and warm the meridians, which leads to smoother flow of blood and qi. In Western medicine, moxibustion has successfully been used to turn breech babies into a normal head-down position prior to childbirth. A landmark study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998 found that up to 75% of women suffering from breech presentations before childbirth had fetuses that rotated to the normal position after receiving moxibustion at an acupuncture point on the Bladder meridian. Other studies have shown that moxibustion increases the movement of the fetus in pregnant women, and may reduce the symptoms of menstrual cramps when used in conjunction with traditional acupuncture.
